Main objectives
The mandate of SACREEE includes: - To support the achievements of the sustainable development objectives of SADC Member States by promoting the use of RE&EE technologies and energy services. - To support the Region’s sustainable development objectives through: resource mobilisation, policy, quality assurance, capacity building and knowledge management, communication, promoting investments in RE&EE projects and programmes. SACREEE has been mandated by the SADC Member States to play a key role in the implementation of the recently adopted Southern Africa Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action plan (REEESAP). SACREEE’s vision is to increase access to modern energy services and increase energy security by promoting the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and energy services in SADC Member States, thereby supporting the region’s economic and social development in an environmentally benign manner.

Main activities
SACREEE develops and executes regional programmes and projects around four output areas: 1. Sustainable Energy Policy 2. Capacity Building 3. Knowledge Management 4. Promotion of Investment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship SACREEE focusses on programmes and projects that can best be implemented at regional level. These actions include harmonisation of policy approaches, regulation and standards, investment coordination, and regional capacity building and knowledge building measures. The technology scope includes all renewable energies, which are viable within the region, but in the case of hydropower is be limited to below 30MW. In the energy efficiency field, SACREEE focusses on industrial, domestic and building design and construction applications.
