Main objectives
The project will increase investment in geothermal power in East Africa. It will reduce the risk of exploratory test drilling, leading to increased investor confidence in under exploited East Africa geothermal energy. It will also improve geothermal strategy, policy and regulations that facilitate investments

Main activities
1) Grant finance for exploratory test drilling will be provided through the already established East African Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF) managed by KfW (the German development bank, in cooperation with the African Union Commission (AUC). It provides grants for private and public geothermal developers to offset the costs of site specific geothermal test drilling and exploration. 2) Technical Assistance to improve the strategy, policy and regulatory conditions will be procured directly by DFID. It will be implemented in cooperation with the AUC which has a mandate to encourage better policy and regulation on geothermal power generation.
